Experience Summary
I recently graduated from North Park University, summa cum laude. I have earned a BGS in Human Development which has enabled me to understand the cultural, social and psychological dynamics of human development. While at NPU, I served as a private humanities tutor and strived to help students achieve their academic goals. For the past year and half, I have volunteered my time at Gilda’s Club Chicago and have worked closely with men, women, and children who are diagnosed with cancer. I primarily served as a facilitator in the children’s school and coordinated play activities for children and adolescents. I am currently enrolled in a M.ED program for Special Education at UIC to further my education and work with children and adults in the community. Given my volunteer experience and the nature of my prior education, I believe that I will be well-suited to this institution.
Teaching Style
Teachers can be a catalyst for change and participate in the transformative learning process for both the student and the teacher. Learning is a collaborative experience and I am dedicated to a student-centered practice. My responsibility as an educator will be to act as a facilitator in the learning process and encourage students to self-reflect, critically think, and embrace the many different aspects of our community. Every child should have an equal opportunity to formal education. For me, teaching represents a tool for social change that can equip students with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to prevail over societal discrimination. Furthermore, I strive to enhance a student’s self efficacy. It is paramount for students to receive encouragement and positive appraisal so that their level of self-efficacy can increase. The educator should create a positive environment that promotes academic achievements for both advantaged and disadvantaged populations.
