Experience Summary
I have experience teaching Chemistry, Biology and Earth Science. I am a native Italian and French speaker, having been born to Franco-Italian parents in Montreal, Quebec, the second largest French speaking city in the world. I have years of teaching experience at the college and high school levels. I am NY State Certified to teach Science at the high school level. I have taught General Chemistry at Dartmouth College (part-time) and at the University of West Georgia (UWG-full-time). I have also taught (LIU, Yeshiva University (YU)) the one-year General Chemistry sequence using a more traditional lecture and lab approach. At YU, this involved using an inquiry-based laboratory with modules on a certain theme requiring increased independent thought and critical thinking. At LIU, I have taught undergraduate General Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry (Quantitative-with lab) and graduate Analytical Chemistry. I am a native Itali an and French speaker, having been born to Franco-Italian parents in Montreal, Quebec, the second largest French speaking city in the world. Teaching Style
I believe that one of the challenges in teaching is motivating the students to be interested in learning. I believe that a good teacher who truly wants to instill life-long learning skills in his/her students challenges them by engaging and empowering them to become independent/critical thinkers/problem-solvers rather than making them dependent on him/her or on "route"/"regurgitative" learning. One must find the best approach to present the material and convey the essential elements of a lesson plan or rather “instructional session” in the classroom and the laboratory.
