My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. I taught and tutored ESL two years before entering law school. I hae taught college classes as an adjunct and later FT professor at Penn College for 25 years. When one teaches speaking, the great problem is volume. Our teachers often get the student to memorize the lines, which is good but exhausting. I try rather to teach the student the old Roman ideal: hold on to the idea, and the words will follow.
