I believe there is a major difference between teaching the student how to get a good grade and mastering the fundamental concepts that control math and science. When helping a student with Algebra, it is critical to asses their basic skills in mathematical operations. With chemistry, physics and biology it is often a matter of increasing the student’s vocabulary and understanding of the complex terminology and relationships presented by the teacher and the classroom book. My teaching style is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the student and then build a solid foundation of basic skills. I have worked with adults. I prefer a one on one direct instruction and mentoring, keeping everything simple and fun. I am not sure how well I would be with children; I have none of my own and have not spent much time with my nephews and nieces. I have worked with a few of my friends children, helping them understand algebra, showing them how simple it really is and how it can be fun. As a engineer I have been training operators in everything form SPC to troubleshooting for 30 years.
