I am a current high school student. I am completely and have completed Honors and AP courses in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Language. I have previously tutored students in my grade level, lower grade levels, higher grade levels, and even college students. I have maintained A's in a majority of my classes, except Geometry in which i recieved a B. I am very understanding and flexible in the concepts of these subjects. I would like to get to know the person(s) that I am tutoring before we begin work. I want them to be comfortable around me and to be able to ask me any qestion with no hestations. I like to balance out their strengths and weaknesses so the learner won't get discouraged when facing something new.

In tutoring any of the traditional subjects (Latin, Greek, formal/informal logic, rhetoric, critical thinking), I emphasize the objectives common to them all: (1) acquisition of context-specific vocabulary, (2) a feel for the flexibility and polysemy of a given word's lexical-semantic meaning, (3) a comprehension of the text's thematic, stylistic, and evaluative undertones and progression. The three, taken together, require us to formulate arguments by sifting through material, with an eye to analysis on how texts are crafted for presentation in terms of form and content. The result is an understanding on how these three are essential for reading, arguing, and, ultimately, thinking critically. Subjects Tutored: Besides the aforementioned subjects, I also tutor for calculus and chemistry. I earned my B.A. from Tulane University magna cum laude in classical languages and philosophy. I

Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach. After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.

One of my Bachelors of Arts is in Latin. I have read many prose authors in Latin. I have been a tutor for over four years. I enjoy tutoring and teaching a variety of subjects to whoever wants to learn. Learning for the sake of learning is one of the most important things I have learned in college and that is how I apply myself to tutoring. School should not be about just memorization; it should be about learning for the sake of learning. I tutor not for facts, but for concepts and how everything fits into the "big picture."

I find that each teaching style has to be tailored to the student's learning style which can range from a heavily structured plan involving memorization and repetition to a more relaxed approach involving a more fun approach. The one thing that remains the same no matter what teaching style is being employed is that clear and reachable goals must be set for the time given. I have been editing my peer's work since my freshman year of high-school in 2004. My studies have included the mechanics of writing, the structure of grammar stemming from a Latin background and Literature ranging from the earliest forms of writing ( the Epic of Gilgamesh) to the post-modernists (Crying of Lot 49) with a special emphasis in both Shakespeare and Milton.

Learning, in my experience, is best done in an environment with a minimum of anxiety and performance stress. I develop an individualized learning strategy that builds up student confidence and interest to increase stress tolerance required for testing situations. As interest and confidence increase, the student develops skills, willingness to work harder, and confidence and pride. Every student can learn and succeed. Each person has a unique access to new information based on their personal, social, and intellectual background. I learn more about this from every new student. Taught History and Latin at the high school level from 1984 through 1989. During 1988 and 1989 taught high school Honors classes while attending law school at night. Well, I'm a sophomore in high school, going into my junior year. Although I haven't graduated yet, I beleive that I could be of great service to younger students struggling in any area. My GPA currently is a 3.8, in middle school it was the same. I'm also a year ahead in science and math, So I could be of assistance up to Algebra II and Chemistry. I try to make things as fun as possible!

I believe in a grammar based approach to language study, and thus use Wheelock's Latin in my courses. I also strongly believe in having an oral component to the study of Latin. By speaking and listening to Latin, the student uses all their cognitive abilities to master the language instead of just reading and writing. By working with the language in these four ways, the student is able to more fully comprehend Latin. I am a graduate student at the University of Chicago, working on my thesis in Classics out here in Colorado. I have studied Classics for over seven years, and have experience teaching Latin at the Laboratory School in Chicago. I love Latin and Ancient Greek, and I love sharing my passion of my languages even more! The field of Classics is so often treated as dead, and if not, as something only for elites. That just isn't true! I am passionate about bringing Latin and Greek t

I have a BA in Latin, and an MA in Greek and Latin. I have taught Latin at the graduate level, and enjoy what CS Lewis called the "great roaring machine" of Latin rhetoric. Both styles--sage on the stage and guide by the side. 1979-1982: Taught Ecclesiastical Latin at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena CA. 1983-1992: Taught AP English and Humanities at the International School of Islamabad, Pakistan. 1992-2011: Served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in U.S. embassies in Islamabad, Canberra and Chisinau, and at consulates in Karachi and Cluj-Napoca (Romania). In this career, I served as a political officer in all posts except for Islamabad, where I did my first tour, as a consular officer. My political portfolio consisted of human rights, religious freedom, and election monitoring. I also served 18 months at the Department of State as regional officer for 41 western and cent

I've taught Latin, Italian and Spanish for 10 years. Currently I work as a translator and as a teacher at the Institute of Italian Culture in Chicago (Michigan Avenue)and I am a doctoral candidate in comparative literature. Planning lessons, providing material, correcting tests, managing the classroom, arranging the schedule, are part of my duties and responsabilities. And since the beginning of my academic career I have dedicated myself to teaching (individual and group) private classes and have always organized study groups with high school and university students, in Italy as well as in Spain, following the school syllabi and reinforcing what the students learned in class, perhaps meanwhile stimulating their interest. My teaching philosophy is based on the certainty that study must be brought about by interest. I think anyone of us who has confronted the learning of a new language,
