I have recently graduated with a minor in Japanese Language and Culture. I began studying the language in 2000. My undergraduate coursework included courses in Japanese Language, Japanese Literature, Japanese Pop Culture, Japanese History, and Japanese Film, among others. I have experience teaching children ages 4-6, including both neurotypical and autism-spectrum children. I also have informally instructed college-aged individuals whose first language was not English on the proper use of various English grammar structures. I have been studying the Japanese language since 2000, and piano since 2001. My teaching style is flexible, and I attempt to find strategies that are personalized to how the student learns best.

My major was in Asia Studies and Japanese Culture, Society and Media. I was able to get an equivalent of N3 on the JLPT(Japanese Language Proficiency Test). I am a William and Mary graduate with a BS in Chemistry, with several years of programming experience from developing my own computer games. In addition I performed laboratory research at the College of William and Mary for a thesis and have 2 years of experience tutoring in Elementary Spanish, Computer Science, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. My teaching style is very simple, but effective. I merely talk to the student to find out where he or she is having difficulty, and work to find ways to remedy the problem. I graduated from high school with honors from a school that never pushed the effectiveness of attending college to students. I maintained my focus and attended Virginia State University in the fall of 2006. My mother was my inspiration, so much that I ventured towards science as my field of study. I chose to be a chemist, allowing myself to go above and beyond the norm. I succeeded as I came upon the completion of my undergraduate studies and obtaining a BS in Chemistry. While finishing up my final semester, I was offered a tutoring position that would allow me to connect with underclassmen as well as my peers, not only with class work but aiding as a mentor to students as well.
