Experience Summary
ASVAB - The ASVAB exam is vital for a good start in a military career. The exam encompasses math, English, science and mechanics. The exam results, and math and English in particular, determine for which career path and schools the student will qualify. I’m retired military and I've taken many exams. So, I know the problems with getting ready for the ASVAB exam. Preparation is vital and will pay off as the young person moves ahead in his/her career. In particular, students need refresher teaching in math, up to a level of the second year of high school algebra. Such skills as solving basic equations, putting word problems into algebraic form, common everyday problems such as areas and distances as well as probabilities are included in review for the exam. English skills such as reading comprehension and vocabulary are an integral part of the exam and count heavily in which career paths are available. .An example of feedback from a successful student’s parent is, “Jack helped us come up with a nine week plan to get my son ready for the ASVAB. He was honest and direct. He was prompt and he patiently answered my many questions and took the time to try and get to know my son and his goals.”
PROJECT MANAGEMENT - I hold an MBA degree from the City University of New York. My major was ""The Management of Human Resources"", and my thesis subject was ""Managerial Control in IT Installations."" I hold the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute. This entailed at least five years of project management experience and an extensive written exam. I have managed projects in the United States, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, India and Romania. These projects included Financial Accounting, Payroll and Human Resources, Engineering Maintenance, Container Terminal Operations, and Harbor Control Systems. These were high value projects, many of which exceeded US$1,000,000 in hardware and programming effort. I supervised IT staffs of 20+ people and was responsible for two large data centers. As the installation manager, my projects included implementing over 100 KM of networking installed in 40 buildings, developing operating procedures and monitoring techniques for the data centers and guaranteeing up-time of at least 99.99%.
