Experience Summary

My teaching (and writing) philosophies are strongly connected to the unique needs of the professional adult learner; providing the tools necessary to succeed individually as part of an effective health care delivery team. I am known for being detail-oriented and organized in my work, and enjoy creating new educational materials and modalities involving students in active vs. passive learning. I am a strong advocate for utilizing a mentorship approach for adult learners. I utilize case studies and various electronic modalities to share my knowledge base.

Teaching Style

I work for the client, and I begin by determining what would help them the most. Nursing students are notorious for not "knowing what they already know." Many times, within a few sessions, clients have gotten over the questions they find are formatted strangely, and once that is accomplished, progress begins very rapidly.

I've been a RN for over 25 years now and have taught and both the university level and at the community college level. I teach dosage calculation, pharmacology, med/surg nursing, pediatric nursing, mental health nursing, nursing fundamentals. I have experience both in person and via distance learning. Nursing is not a job for me (never has been). I absolutely love teaching, and I am known for being a tough but very fair instructor. Do not let the word "tough" scare you....Nursing is a tough and rigorous educational path. I am absolutely committed to student success. If you are having trouble with any particular concept, I will work with you until you understand the material. Nursing education is comprised of many individual courses, including Anatomy and Physiology, math (dosage calculations), pharmacology, biology, microbiology, language arts, etc. I have 15+ years of successful teaching in these subjects and am known for being an extremely effective teacher. If you are having difficulty with any of the subjects I've discussed, contact me for help! I know nursing education inside and out and there is no topic that I cannot help you to understand well enough to be able to effectively pass exams while maintaining and growing your nursing knowledge base. I will not give up on you until I am comfortable that you have really learned the material! I have taught via distance learning for over 10 years, and have coached one-on-one online, utilizing the Wyzant classroom or other modality. I have a unique approach to preparing for exams, either within a nursing program, or sitting for NCLEX. Because I do a majority of my coaching (tutoring) via the internet, I have developed a review program that can be easily adaptable to any student. I have extensive experience in creating and teaching NCLEX-type exam questions! I know NCLEX very well, and have written exam questions in the same format for many years. I can help you understand how to analyze the multiple-choice questions in order to be successful and I can help you focus down to where you need the most help (this saves you time & money). I have coached literally hundreds of nursing program graduates in NCLEX preparation, and would like to help you as well!
