Experience Summary
I am a certified reading specialist with 25 years of experience serving struggling and special-needs learners, including those experiencing dyslexia, attention deficit disorder or who are learning English as a second language or face other challenges. I expertly deliver 'explicit, direct instruction', using techniques and methodologies from Orton-Gillingham, Reading Recovery, sequential phonics and writing programs to deliver extraordinary learning outcomes for my students. My curriculum includes phonemic awareness, phonics, reading, the meaning-syntax-visual cueing system, writing, spelling, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
I thoroughly assess every detail of the student's academic competencies, literacy behaviors, attitudes, emotional affects (if displayed), physical abilities and academic remediation needs (deficits as compared to average developmentally and age-appropriate expectations). Based upon my assessments, I devise a customized program of curriculum and methods to meet the needs of the individual student.
Most of my teaching is individual but small groups are an option.
