Experience Summary
I obtained a BS in Agriculture from the University of Florida in 1978, but my main work experience has been in business management. Since 2010 I have also been a consultant for an international elementary school assisting the teaching staff with curriculum development. My more direct teaching experience has been with my son who has always had significant learning difficulties and whom I have tutored consistently through Elementary School as an ESE student; he is now a freshman in High School and I take a good part of the credit for his success. I believe I can replicate this experience with other ESE students. I am strong in Math and Science but I am also a good writer, fluent in both English and French. I also have a lot of experience teaching technical subjects to adults.
Teaching Style
I consider myself a gifted teacher. I believe I have a gift to communicate apparently complex concepts in simple terms. I strongly believe that “if the student does not learn, the teacher is not teaching”, meaning that the teacher has a responsibility to discover how to access his/her student’s potential, though that may not be obvious at first. I put a lot of emphasis on first establishing a good rapport with the person I am teaching and trying to understand how he/she learns. As much as possible I strive to make learning fun. I am patient, kind, but also firm.
