Experience Summary
After studying to become a teacher I spent eleven years as an educator in a wide variety of schools including a Montessori School in Germany. While teaching, much of my time was spent searching for and creating ways to help my students learn. Each child is different and learns differently. I have found that it is essential for student success to identify the child's learning style quickly. When a child finally starts to "get it" because things are being presented to them in ways that they understand then they quickly blossom as a student. Just knowing how to learn raises a child's self esteem and in effect they start to love to learn.
Working with children and young adults to bring them success in life is an amazing job. It wasn't until my position in Washington D.C. when I realized that my love of learning and interest in the welfare of my students could also be a powerful tool. While showing love I gained respect. It took a lot of time but was worth it. I am still in touch with many of my students from over the years. Seeing them become self respecting individuals with goals has been an amazing thing for me.
