Experience Summary
Have tutored privately for 4 years (while in college), tutored full-time (~15 students) for the past year. ?Many of my students had executive functioning difficulties and issues like ADD, anxiety, etc.
During college I studied Biology and Physiology in depth in addition to a wide range of other subjects at UCLA. These include the spectrum of science (Chemistry, Anatomy, Neuroscience, Genetics, Molecular Biology) and mathematics (Calculus, Physics) courses, as well as classes in such subjects as English, Geography, Linguistics, and African and Native American History. I am in San Diego from June 16 through July before moving to Portland for a new job. I believe that true knowledge is a dynamic entity that develops when one is able to integrate information and skill sets from various, often seemingly unrelated, fields.

Teaching Style
I incorporate a natural curiosity and passion for learning into my teaching. I have worked extensively with high school and elementary students, especially in math, science, and writing. Many of these students struggle with deficits in executive functioning, and I focus on identifying specific sources of weakness and guiding the student to correct them. I take a holistic approach to constructing success, beginning with a student’s attitude, study habits, and organizational skills and working up to his or her methodological approach to solving problems. At UCLA I also spent a great deal of time working with the Mobile Clinic Project, educating the homeless and underserved populations of Los Angeles on health and nutrition. Many of these individuals deal with mental illness and often do not understand something until it is placed in a specific context, and I learned how to employ a variety of strategies in teaching.
My Hobbies
Rugby, football, cooking, playing the piano, playing the mandolin, writing music, reading
