Experience Summary
I have been working with Elementary aged children for over 7 years. I have had many different teaching experiences working with grades K-2. I have tutored primarily in reading with an emphasis on guided reading strategies, phonemic awareness, and word building. In the area of math, I have experience with the programs: Calendar math, Investigations, and Singapore Math. For Writing, I have used the Lucy Culkins Program as well as 6 Traits writing. I enjoy working with students to help them gain confidence and find their passion in learning.
Teaching Style
When I first meet my students, I want them to feel comfortable with me and what we will be doing. I try to get to know them as we work together and find out what their interests, hobbies, strengths, weaknesses, and other important factors in their lives. I will work on homework, projects, test preparation, as well as activities and lessons I have used to be successful. I want the student and parent to develop a relationship with me where we can talk openly about the work and progress!
My Hobbies
I am very active in athletics such as yoga, biking, hiking, and skiing. I enjoy spending time with my family going to Pittsburgh sporting events! Another passion of mine is crafts. When I have free time, I enjoy scrapbooking, painting, and knitting.
