Experience Summary
I teach Spanish at the University of Utah, adult ed department. I have experience marketing high tech products in Latin America. I am fluent in Spanish as a non-native speaker. I think learning from a non-native speaker is a good thing - I've learned several languages and I know how hard it is. I am patient, persistent, I don't give up, and I make learning fun. I lived in Bolivia and Brazil when I was little and have kept my love of language alive. I have a Spanish accent that is near-native and my Spanish is excellent. I am a California credentialed substitute teacher (CBEST).
My work experience in Spanish includes professional and volunteer work. I ran marketing teams supporting the Latin America sales region. I volunteered at a non profit where over 60% of the clientele were Spanish-speaking.
Teaching Style
Come prepared to roll up your sleeves and live the language. Active learning. Warm up and rapid fire vocabulary drills to start exchanging numbers, colors, seasons, months, days of the week. Lesson plans focus on 1-2 points of grammar each time. Read aloud and practice together. A lot of practice speaking.
