Experience Summary
I have worked in biology research for 6 years in a lab setting. This work focused on human physiology and the biochemistry of inflammatory response. My graduate work in Biology involved studying calcification in blue crabs as a model for understanding biomineralization. As an undergraduate I studied marine organisms and spent 4 years volunteering for field research in marine mammology. I also have a Bachelor's of Art in Visual art and a psychology minor. I was originally recruited to tutor in college by the learning center, due to my grades. I have tutored college, high school and elementary aged students in a variety of subjects (primarily Math, Biology and Physics).
Teaching Style
I think it's important to help demonstrate problem solving techniques and reasoning methods. Many students feel overwhelmed by certain subject matter and don't know where to begin. I have found it helpful to work through problems together initially and then try to guide students into more independent solutions.
My Hobbies
I am an avid reader and a largely self-taught seamstress for myself and family. I also love the outdoors, cooking, and Doctor Who.
