Experience Summary
Substitue teacher and esl tutor for the past 4 years. I worked with various classes from Algebra to IEP classes and ESL, from Science to Social studies and everything in between. I taught classes and did not hand out worksheets. My rules in class were, you dont waste a class period. I used litle tricks to make sure they did not waste time and actually learned from me. My students often come up to me when they see me in public to say I was their favorite sub. I started off in Art Education as a major but left to go into Marketing.
The IEP classes and learning disabled classes allowed me to work one on one with students which I enjoyed.
Teaching Style
I often use word games or riddles as rewards for good work. It motivates effort from my students and makes them listen more closely.
With my esl students, I made sure to apply new words to their life in order to gain the most retention of the new vocabulary words. The approach I use of ask students to draw from their own lives in order to illustrate meaning and comprehension encourages a dailogue that works well with any vocabulary words for any age group.
My Hobbies
art ,theater, dancing, English comedies, old movies, my trampolene
Other Comments
"How to talk so children will listen , How to listen so children will talk", and early childhood classes. I spent several years teaching swimming at a YMCA. I am a mother of 3 children who are all taking classes 1 -3 years ahead. My 17 year senoir was taking college classes as a junoir and continues that this year. My bicultural English and American background makes my approach unique. I found as a sub, I was able to motivate even the harder to reach children. In many cases, it is much harder to motivate a student to work for a sub and subs often get less results from students. I was able to rise above this and teach the students. I was able to gain their respect and get them to work which their regular teachers normally automatically get.
