Experience Summary
I just received my degree and license in Elementary Education in May of 2012. My areas of concentration (basically minors) were in English and Social Studies. As part of my degree program, I completed a six month internship in the first grade at New Albany Elementary School in New Albany, Mississippi. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I have helped tutor children in after school activities for about 8 years. My students usually showed at least one letter grade improvement over the course of the school year, with all of them performing at or above grade level by the end of the year. I have also taught English in China and Taiwan, so I am familiar with tutoring ESL students, particularly those who speak Mandarin Chinese.
Teaching Style
I use student-centered learning - I act as a guide, directing the student's learning while letting them use their own thought processes. This allows them to absorb the information in their own way, making it easier for them to recall not only the information, but also how to use it.
My Hobbies
I enjoy reading and writing.
