Experience Summary

15+ years teaching experience: grades 4-12, & Community College, classroom, on-line, hybrid, and in-home settings. Two time Fellow of the California Writing Project's Invitational Summer Institute. Member, NC Writing Project, Charlotte. Credentialed English, ESL, and Social Studies teacher, with two years post secondary teaching experience. SJSU Writing center tutor & department grammar T.A. 1988-1991 as a history major. Eight years home-schooling students on long term medical leave through the HomeBound and Home/Hospital program. Intensive remediation and standards recovery for middle schools program; intensive intervention and credit recovery lab supervisor at local alternative high school. Special needs learning and differentiation through honors and AP. Licensure in Middle grades Science; licensure for upper elementary pending upcoming fall Praxis exam results. Ability to build rapport, find the right way to explain or demonstrate,ands the right questions to spark your ability to "get it this time." My goal is to help you no longer need me.

I anchored a homebound program to liaise with students' on -campus teachers for 7 or 8 years in Central California. I've leveraged my exposure to other areas of high school curriculum to add certifications to help students in as many ways as possible, to appeal to each student's learning styles and strengths. Composition Proficiency: Expert
English degree, graduate coursework in English Literature on Composition; Two time fellow of the California Writing Project. I can teach the standard modes of writing, the text and transitional structures, and how to combine each into well crafted prose. This is what I do!
Elementary Proficiency: Expert
Long term substitute in 5/6 combination, and regular substitute (1-2x a month) in 4th grade class. Able to help with reading, writing, spelling, mathematics, sciences, social studies, and any special projects for upper elementary students. Years as a camp counselor, day camp director, and after school program director for upper elementary through college--I love kids at this age!

I teach students that good writing is merely good thinking. There are several formulas or pattens in writing that make producing a paragraph, essay, or paper much less complicated. On line tools have also simplified the writing process, so that your ideas and content shine through. One time editor and sportswriter, and consistently the person to ask about how to write this everywhere I've worked since high school.
