Experience Summary
I have always loved learning and helping others to learn. While at TCU, I was a teaching assistant, which gave me the chance to work with students, tutor them, help them to have good study habits, and grade papers. I also have experience with planning and writing papers. I have completed a Master's thesis, which required a year of research, and I have written numerous term papers that received As. I am competent in proof-reading, grammar, and spelling, and I won several awards for creative writing when I was younger.
Teaching Style
I realize that every student learns differently. I, for example, learn best with a combination of visual and kinesthetic experience. This means that I am more likely to remember things if I have a picture to go with it and can write or physically "copycat" the person who is teaching through hands-on learning. Some students learn by listening, and some learn through a combination of the above. Repetition, drawing, and mnemonic devices may also be helpful. Every student is unique and it is my goal to figure out how they learn and go from there.
My Hobbies
I also have experience in studio art, journalism, history, and music (I play the flute). I am a dedicated reader and enjoy reading at least one fiction book a week. I enjoy baking, playing with my dog, Ollie, and sewing.
Other Comments
I expect students to be well-behaved and focused during sessions. If the student does not pay attention, he or she cannot learn.
