About Me

Experience Summary

Working with children always has been and always will be a passion of mine. Prior to deciding that I would focus my attention on becoming a child psychologist I contemplated following in the footsteps of a number of my most influential role models: teachers. In my eyes, there's both a monumental responsibility and a fulfillment beyond words when you have been entrusted to educate our youth. While some may choose to see teaching as an insurmountable challenge, I see it as an unparalleled opportunity to do my part to better the lives of others, and an opportunity that I have taken advantage of countless times. In addition to tutoring algebra in my past, I have had the pleasure of serving as a summer camp counselor, an after-school activity facilitator, a pediatrics unit volunteer and a number of other child-based positions, many of which have taken place in the Madison area. I hope that you see in me the capability that I have in teaching your child and I look forward to being given the chance to do so.

Teaching Style

I believe that a child cannot fully come to comprehend subject matter without having a chance to be immersed in it first. This philosophy lends to the hands-on, question-oriented form of teaching that I so firmly stand by. I realize that different people employ different strategies in coming to learn new material and I will adjust the way I teach as best I can in order to accommodate each and every individual detail. Much the same as the famous social psychologist Lev Vygotsky emphasized the zone of proximal development, I believe that education should not be approached from the standpoint of "teaching to the test" as much as it deserves to be about aiding a child in coming up with creative alternatives in an effort to master the concept in question and develop an intrinsic motivation to actually want to learn.

My Hobbies

I enjoy an active and engaging lifestyle. My hobbies include both playing and watching a number of sports including soccer, basketball, baseball, golf, and tennis. Over the past few years I have become an avid runner and train for half-marathons regularly. When I have the time I take pleasure in volunteering through community organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. All things considered, the odds are good that if I'm spending time outdoors with family and friends, I'm having a good time.
