My name is Alicia Thompson. I am a mother of a growing seven year old! I am very passionate in assisting fellow elementary students excel and enhance their skills. I am part of my daughter's PTA and monthly tutor her fellow classmates in reading skills. I have been part of the PTA for two years. For the past two years, I have been a private tutor for elementary children. Finally, for ten years, I professionally tutored my sister in language. I retired from corporate America over three years ago. In result, I am now a global deregulation of energy franchise owner business owner for three years and have over five years experience in marketing, management, and customer service. I also recruited numerous individuals for a major telecommunications company for over a year. As a global business owner, I have been able to meet very successful and wealthy individuals. They have educated me on how personal development or growth will in turn enhance your professional or work life. My background in business spans over seven years in total.
Teaching Style
I am a very friendly and patient individual. Since I specialize in tutoring elementary children to adults,I understand I am going to have different methods of teaching. For all my students, I try to find out what their weakness and strengths are. I attempt to have them notice it as well; that way we can work together as a team. For children, I always have some type of reward or goal for them to strive for. For example, I would remind the student that after they finish their assignments they would receive a sticker, lollipop (under parent permission), or medal.I have found children love recognition. This keeps them focused or excited. For my adult session, the end of the day goal would be a little different. I would remind the student their goal and why they are pursuing tutoring. On the last day of the tutoring session, I usually treat the student out for lunch, provide a certificate of accomplishment, or a trophy. I try to make the sessions fun, educational, and exciting.
My Hobbies
I love to draw and design houses. When I was younger, I wanted to an architectural engineer. I discovered I didn't want my love for that field to turn into a chore. In result, I design buildings and homes for a hobby. I love to read and learn new things. I also love to travel and explore. I always wanted to hike. One day I will achieve that goal. I also like to go biking.

The student will have " weekly word list". The word list will consist of words their school requires them to know or age-appropriate words be given. These words would need to be placed in alphabetical order, sentences, crossword puzzles, and much more. These exercises will provide the child confidence in themselves when book reports are given and etc. |

| I assist elementary students on the daily bases on how to study. I first make sure they are in a correct environment. I make sure the television is off and all necessary materials are available. I usually have additional study materials available for the student. For example, flash cards that is related to the subject and worksheets. Also, if the student is studying for a test. I can help the student complete miniature exams that will review his or her knowledge. |
