Experience Summary
I am a retired Speech and Language Therapist and Special Education Teacher who has continued working with students of all ages from pre-school to adulthood through substitute teaching and tutoring. My expertise is extensive and varied including communication skills, language arts, reading, verbal expression, writing and helping students learn English as a Second Language. My experience ranges with individuals with a variety of challenges and in many different settings.
Teaching Style
When I work with students, I approach them with a positive attitude emphasizing their strengths while working on their weaknesses as well. An excellent rapport is also needed for their success and this occurs due to my positive attitude looking for a student's strengths. Our sessions are focused but can be fun as well. With a positive approach, students are motivated and attentive. A major component of our tutoring sessions is to teach students to be his/her own self advocate and "learn how to learn." I also believe that communicating with the students' parents, if the student is a child or young adult, is critical to his/her success.
