As a Training and Development specialist with both a linguist and a business degree, teaching qualifications and more than 20 years of experience, I am a professional and resourceful tutor to rely on. I can draw from many years of combined experience in language and intercultural training, translation and business. I specialize in language development (vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation) for business, relocation, academic purposes, travel and leisure, translation/ interpretation services, proof reading, communications/ public speaking and test preparation (TOEFL, TestDaF and similar tests of English and German as a foreign language). Apart from English (ESL) and German, I also teach Italian and French.
Teaching Style
Having worked in Training and Development for more than 20 years and having been a language learner myself for almost my entire life, I am very passionate about learning and personal development. Excelling at school, at work or simply learning something new for personal reasons is very exciting, and there is nothing I could ever enjoy more than helping people achieve these goals. Students will be able to benefit from my wealth of knowledge and experience as well as enjoy a fun and inspiring learning environment. I have both a language training and PR/Communications background and can draw from many years of experience working in PR/Communications, giving presentations and training others to excel in this field. Everyone can become proficient in public speaking. I have shown people how to prepare, how to structure their presentation, how to overcome their fear of speaking in public and how to feel more comfortable when delivering speeches and presentations, giving interviews, making announcements or any other occasion that requires speaking in front of an audience, no matter how big or small. French is an important language and I've always enjoyed speaking French. Even though I'm not a native speaker, I started learning French more than 20 years ago. I have used French in business and for traveling, have traveled to France many times and have taught French to beginners for many years.
Due to the fact that I'm not a native speaker, I wouldn't feel comfortable teaching very advanced students, but I am very comfortable and very experienced in teaching lower level students and beginners.

I am bi-lingual German and English and have lived in Germany and Great Britain for most of my life. I am now a resident of South Florida, have international living and working experience, and I am a language trainer and translator by profession. Working with me, you are not only in professional hands, but I will make this an enjoyable learning experience, too.
No matter what you need German for, I can help you achieve your goals. I can draw from many years of teaching basic "survival" German, German for day-to-day life, for traveling and for business. Italian is one of the most beautiful languages in the world and I've always enjoyed speaking Italian. Even though I'm not a native speaker, I started learning Italian more than 20 years ago. I have used Italian in business and for traveling, have traveled to Italy and the Italian speaking part of Switzerland many times and have even lived in Italy for some time. Moreover, as I am a language and communications trainer by profession, I have also taught Italian to beginners for many years.
Due to the fact that I'm not a native speaker, I wouldn't feel comfortable teaching very advanced students, but I am very comfortable and very experienced in teaching lower level students and beginners. I am particularly keen on introducing this wonderful language to beginners and to make the Italian culture more accessible to them because Italy is a country truly worth while traveling to.

| The TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language) is a common test to prove a new student's academic English language skills and an IBT score of 75 to 100 is usually required. The test is highly demanding and cannot be mastered without preparation.
The TOEFL consists of four parts, reading, listening, speaking and writing. Usually, speaking and writing are perceived as the two most challenging parts by students. These are the two parts most students actually need a tutor for, whereas the reading and listening parts can be tackled as a self-study task with a little bit of guidance by a tutor.
I have taught many TOEFL preparation courses, have all necessary books and CDs as well as many other materials I've created over time. I can let you do a full sample TOEFL test, give you your current score, analyze your strengths and weaknesses and help you improve critical areas.

I have not only helped people improve their writing skills, but have also written various essays, speeches and papers for my students. Furthermore, I've given a lot of writing training in conjunction with my TOEFL preparation courses, which require amongst others writing skills. Writing requires a lot of practice. Therefore, writing students usually spend a lot of time writing their own texts, essays and compositions and I would proof-read their work, correct mistakes and highlight and explain recurring mistakes, which can also be done remotely by email, Skype or telephone and doesn't always require an in-person meeting. However, if you live within my travel radius, I would of course also meet with you and discuss things with you in person. |
