Experience Summary
My experience as a tutor came naturally growing up as the older brother in a household of four boys. I am fluent in American Sign Language as my mother and younger brothers were born deaf. I helped teach sign language to my younger siblings growing up. One of my brothers had a learning disability, the other had behavioral disorders.
They both were failing in our local public schools having transferred from the school for the deaf in Eastern South Dakota which had a very poor school at the time. I began with homework help and tutoring for them and they both had huge educational success. The one with some learning disabilities, dyslexia and comprehension problems, thrived with my help and has gone on to graduate from college which was not a possibility before we started. The behavior issues with my other brother lessened because his confidence had grown - there were still some behavior issues to contend with, but not nearly as much nor as severe.
Besides having experience on a personal level with tutoring my younger brothers, I've worked with many, many parents who've had nothing short of amazing results through the before and after school program I worked for in high school. As well as the child development center I worked within after graduation. Of all the people I've personally known who've had me tutor their own children, not a single one was even remotely dissatisfied and several have said they would have paid double for what they received because of their children's new-found self-esteem, growth and education was well worth it. It was well worth it on my end as well, as I enjoy immensely establishing a rapport and helping a child overcome weak areas that have once plagued my own brothers.
Teaching Style
I will help your child find their weak areas, and help them overcome weak areas so they can focus on their current curriculum. With me as your child's tutor, they will be able to comprehend those concepts that their regular teacher assumes your child already knows. I have spent over 10 years tutoring and teaching in both classrooms and child care development programs as well as my own home growing up throughout high school tutoring my younger brothers.
