Experience Summary
I was offered a fellowship by the Graduate School of City University of New York on the basis of my GRE (chemistry) scores soon after I have completed BS degree in chemistry with physics as the minor at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. I have earned two masters degrees, MA in Polymer Chemistry and MS in Organic Chemistry, which has enabled me to gain admission to the doctoral program in chemistry at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign where I have fulfilled all requirements for the doctorate in organic chemistry except the writing and defense of the dissertation itself.
In addition, I have gained extensive teaching skills in many areas of chemistry while working as a Teaching Assistant for many years.
Teaching Style
Teaching is a vital to any academic career. My goal as a teacher is to effectively communicate the subject matter in an interesting way to the student in order to create an atmosphere conducive to learning. I would use number of methods such as in-class participation, demonstration-Supplemented Lectures, development of internet resources and research papers to clearly convey principles relevant to the chemistry classes I would teach.
In addition, through the feed back from students and peers, I will continually strive to improve my teaching abilities. Adjustments in style and resources will constantly be made in order to achieve the objectives set forth earlier.
