Experience Summary
Throughout my years of teaching I have taught students with a broad range of abilities and needs. At the middle school level I have provided instruction in math, English, science and social studies. In high school my focus is more individualized in either English or math. I have expertise in reading and writing instruction as evidenced by my students' test scores. In both settings I have had great success with students who struggle with academics using my own unique strategies. During the National Board Certification process I was required to provide written, audio, and video documentation of my teaching proficiency. I have tutored students in English/reading from the elementary level to the college level.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is the same as my parenting style. Establishing high expectations and an environment where students are provided the academic tools they need, as well as care and concern, have been the keys to my success. I have learned that all children strive to please their parents, and their teachers when they know that the teacher is invested in their success. I also seek to instill an "I can do it" attitude in my students because many have struggled and developed a negative attitude about academics. The student and I work together as a team. When one succeeds, so does the other. I include parents in each success so that the student is supported across all settings.
