Experience Summary
I started tutoring at the Hawaii Pacific University Tutoring Center in March of 2008. They certified me as a tutor, and I quickly earned the title of Master Tutor. The subjects that I covered included Algebra, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, and Math for Decision Making (Business Math which involved some Statistics and Calculus). I started engaging in private tutoring in May of 2008, and tutored a wide range of students from middle-aged to adolescent. Also, the diverse student body of Hawaii Pacific University provided me with the opportunity to gain experience tutoring students who do not speak English as their first language. I can tutor principles of accounting and managerial accounting. I do have a degree in accounting, but the majority of my tutoring experience so far has been with underclassmen as I just graduated.
Teaching Style
I am patient and knowledgeable in the subjects that I tutor. In over two years of experience I never received a single complaint from a student. In fact, most of my students have praised my ability to cover subjects in great technical detail as well as simplifying complex subjects into very understandable terms. I carefully analyze whether the student has a technical or terminological issue with a subject before beginning my explanations. My favorite method of instruction is via simile which I find helps students absorb knowledge by finding practical applications in their everyday lives. However, the diverse student body I have gained experience with has provided me with many different approaches of conveying knowledge to my students.
