Experience Summary
From an early age, growing up in a loving & driven environment, it became overwhelmingly apparent to me that, just as food & exercise nourish the physical body, education nourishes the mind, spirit, & soul. Thus far, I have earned two bachelors degrees: a BS in Spanish & a BA in Finance, which have both been a tremendous advantage in this progressive, global economy. I did not realize how qualified I was to teach/tutor until this past year when I worked with inner city youth, as a part of the NCLB program here in Metro Nashville. I worked with children from any & every ethnicity, background, & culture. While my actual title as a "tutor," has only been present about a year, I have always been a mentor, kindred spirit, & positive influence to my family, friends, & on occasion, the lonely passer-by.
Teaching Style
Family & friends have expressed to me that my open-mindedness & clever & creative nature allow me to have an almost sixth sense-like intuition. Through the NCLB program, I put this theory to the test, & to be perfectly honest, I feel as if I lived up to this supposed “inherent capacity” to touch & better the lives of underprivileged, neglected, inner-city youth. As an educational activist, I REALLY, REALLY try to get & know each child on an individual basis. I want the child to become comfortable with me in their immediate environment: if a child cannot trust, respect, & admire his or her educator as a mentor, how can we truly expect the child to take his or her education seriously? Can we expect a progressive future if our children’s latent potential is never tapped into, & only remains dormant? I’m here to make that possibility less likely.
