Experience Summary
As a summa cum laude graduate, I know the meaning of perseverance and what it means to excel. My undergraduate degree is in Secondary Social Studies Education, but I have also conducted extensive research in International Studies, Human Rights, French, and Mandarin. I have, through my study abroad experience and my passion for traveling, developed a world view that thrives on education. I have taught middle school for the past 4 years in a variety of settings including rural, urban, and suburban, and I have also taught in accelerated summer camp programs and environmental education settings. In addition to my formal classroom experiences, I have tutored on an individual level consistently throughout the years.
Teaching Style
I pride myself on my desire to structure my lessons and my attitude in a student-centered way, and I am keenly aware that the true environment of my classroom depends on me. My philosophy of education is that the bulk of the weight rests on my shoulders; I issue the clear expectations, promote logical consequences, and then I practice what I preach. A firm subscriber to the philosophy that students must be given the opportunity to make their own decisions and that they must be able to see the logical consequence of those decisions, I operate my classroom knowing that teenagers need to feel like they have ownership of their lives. If I am organized, prepare captivating lessons, provide clear expectations, and promote logical consequences, my students will be the captains of their own ships and I will have played a role in cultivating more engaged citizens.
