Experience Summary
I am currently a PhD candidate in Ecology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Throughout my education and short career I have developed teaching skills through tutoring, teaching labs to middle school students, mentoring high school students and giving informational talks on environmental issues to the public. I enjoy teaching and I feel that I have a gift for explaining science and math to people unexperienced in these subjects.
Teaching Style
I believe in inquiry based learning, or teaching any subject by incorporating the student's natural curiosity and drawing connections to their interests. I don't taking a long time to teach a student how to approach a single problem or concept and foster their understanding of the material so that they will understand how to approach the problem on their own. In other words, I put energy into explaining why they should do something so that they can reason through it themselves in a test situation.
