Experience Summary
I am a college graduate with a BA in Spanish. Although my Spanish has gotten a bit rusty, I still speak, read, and write it fairly fluently.
I am certified to Teach English as a Foreign Language and I am three credit away from a MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
I have roughly four years as an assistant English as a Second Language teacher. I have one year as a lead teacher to second graders in El Salvador using the English language.
My strengths are in reading, writing and language arts. I have strong English grammar skills and intermediate Spanish grammar skills.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working with all children in an educational setting, although I prefer grades k-5. It is very rewarding for me when I see a child actually retaining what is being taught to them. IN China they have a philosophy on teaching and learning. Learning has two parts. The first part is being taught how to do something. However it is not a complete process until the knowledge can be demonstrated by the student without the teacher.
It is also important to realize that children are all capable of learning but not all children learn the same way. A good educator must always be prepared to differentiate instruction for the individual student being taught. I do the best I can to make sure I am always aware of this and modify lessons accordingly.
