Experience Summary
After graduating from college with a degree in English, I pursued a career in the corporate field. I did not find it satisfying and yearned to return to school to pursue a master's in education. I began substitute teaching in spring of 2007 and completed my student teaching in December 2007. I have been teaching English since I finished student teaching and have been a tutor at Sylvan for some time. I tutor all areas, from beginning to advanced reading and math, writing, study skills, and ACT prep. I am driven by the success of my students, both in the classroom and at Sylvan.
Teaching Style
I enjoy teaching a great deal. I love children, and believe every child has the capacity to succeed. My job is not only to give children the content knowledge, but to build their self-esteem and help them realize their own potential. In my experience, students who lack self-esteem often perform poorly in school, even if they know the material. My job is to build their self image while giving them the skills they need to excel.
