Experience Summary
I have taught classes/tutored/judged efforts in Math, Science, Controls, Robotics, Matlab/Simulink, Beginning Computing, Effective WWW Searches, Neural Networks/Artificial Intelligence, Alternative Energy, Writing Resumes, Spelling, Grammar, Effective Presentations, & basic safe Horseback Riding. My personal expertise is developing & implementing automation, sensor fusion, nonlinear modeling, controllers & user-friendly interfaces which isolate, track, diagnose, & predict incomplete or corrupted real-time signals in uncertain environments. Tools have included statistics, neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms, deterministic chaos, wavelets, stochastic Petri nets, frequency clustering, & intelligent agents.
Teaching Style
I work with students from age 2 to 82, and with all origins, cultures, and orientations. I specialize in using mental triggers to help in effective understanding and information retrieval (e.g., moving cookies on a table to demo electrical charge). I also teach with analogies to real world scenarios, using sources from around the world, and throughout history. Some problems have more than one root course, and some have coupled interactions that are difficult to isolate. I will also point out where there is more than one solution to a given problem, where management often gets to choose, based on a tradeoff between budget and warranty.
