Experience Summary
I have a degree and a K-3rd teaching certificate with a reading endorsement in early childhood education from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. I also have a five year provisional teaching license for the state of Michigan certifying me to teach K-5th. I have been working in the field of childcare full time for the last five years. I have been the lead teacher of several infant care and education programs. Mostly I see to the minute to minute needs of numerous infants. Additionally, I create and implement lesson plans across a wide range of developmental areas and abilities. Monthly, I create displays of various activities and explorations that I have documented to show families what their children are doing.
Teaching Style
As a student I was most drawn to the ideas of Piaget and Gardner. Their teaching philosophies made the most sense to me when it came to teaching. Piaget focused on the idea of play as learning. This may sound strange to some, but a child is always learning, no matter they are doing, due to the fact that so many experiences are totally new to them. When children stacks blocks they are exploring many scientific concepts such as balance, gravity, cause and effect and many others. When children scribble with crayons they are exploring many concepts of art and aesthetics. Gardner describes the idea of multiple intelligences. Everyone is good at some aspects of learning and less so in others. Children learn in many different ways.
