Experience Summary
I worked for 14 years as a Project Engineer for the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety before deciding to start a new career as a teacher of high school physics. I attended the Transition to Teaching program at Calument College in Whiting Indiana and completed my Student Teaching at Munster High School in Indiana in the fall of 2008. In the spring of 2009 I passed my Content Area exam and in June 2009 received a Teaching License from the state of Indiana.
Teaching Style
I believe that students should be respected and challenged beyond the usual material they are expected to learn in order to demonstrate proficiency in their coursework. I believe that students learn best by first having their imaginations stimulated and then given concrete examples of the concepts with which they have been presented. Physics is a subject where both ideas and concepts can be discussed in the classroom and can then be demonstrated by experiments in the laboratory. Combining these elements will provide a compelling environment for my students to explore and master their understanding of the physical world.
