Experience Summary
I worked as an in home private ABA therapist for two separate families, each with a child with autism. I worked individually with both children approximately 8-12 hours per week for over a year. I taught in a traditional ABA classroom with six students on the autism spectrum and all with other severe disabilities.
I have also volunteered for many years as a bible school teacher.
Teaching Style
I would have to say that my teaching style is flexibility. I believe that it is necessary to gauge your students as a group and individually before deciding on which teaching methods would be most effective. I believe that naturalistic teaching is important. I also believe in a form of discrete trial training. It takes some of the basics from Discrete Trial and adapts them to fit the needs of the students that are struggling with certain subjects. Research has proven that all students learn differently and lessons cannot be taught primarily through auditory learning. A teacher especially one in the younger grades must engage in auditory, visual, tactile, kinestics and other learning methods.
